Jessie LaFleur is a furniture maker based in Ucluelet, on Vancouver Island. His aim with the Discovery Islands Collection is to build on experiences at the Inside Passage School by exploring methods that highlight the living qualities in wood.  Working with naturally occurring shapes in wood has left LaFeur with a deeper understanding of the material.  A story is shared in the growth rings of a tree – a story that can capture the imagination of both the maker and the audience.  Grain, colour and texture all contribute to the feeling in a piece of carefully composed cabinetry.  A feeling he hopes will bring people closer to craft and our relationship with wood.
